The beginning of September brings about the re-start of the old school magazine throwback posts. So it seems fitting that the first issue I am posting is the September 1986 issue of Freestylin' with Ceppie Maes on the cover.

Maurice Meyer and Dave Vanderspek two parts of the legendary Curb Dogs. If you look at Maurice's sequence in the other direction it looks like a huge abubaca. And the shot of Vander is just pure amazingness. Almost as good as this one.

1978 was way before my time in BMX, but there is one name that keeps popping up over all those years, Stu Thompson. NBA #1, wow, they guy had a long run as a BMX pro.

Stu interview. Cool to see him riding SE. I was so used to seeing him in Redline or Huffy colors.

Wonder if he landed that one handed one footed x-up? And is that where the "Super Pros" got their start?

Sometime this morning on Twitter I posted a link to this photo. Stoked when I downloaded this issue and found that Tinker had the spread in it. Guy is an amazing bike rider.

ACS was a splash of Genius? Not all too sure about that. I had Z-Rims for awhile, it was like riding on wet spaghetti noodles. Alright, maybe not that bad. Sure wasn't like riding on aluminum wheels.

BMX Action--December 1981 - - Part 2

Part two of the BMX Action December 1981 post from Monday. East to do considering this issue had 132 pages in it. I need to try and track down a copy of it. 

ABA Devonshire race coverage opened with this great shot of Harry Leary leading the Pro main while Greg Hill looks to can control out of a sketchy situation.

The track layout looked like a fun one. Action was always good at giving the younger guys coverage, like the 11 expert class.

RL Osborn giving the Diamond Back Pro Kit a burn slide for good measure.

Wasn't a lot of side hack coverage at the time. In fact, I can hardly recall any of it. Good to finally see some it of in these scans.

I missed a point in yesterday's post that I need to bring up today. Some eagle eyed old school coots may have, noticed but in case you didn't, take a look a David Ruz and his nuts.Yeah, yeah. You knew I was going there. What on Earth are those? I was thinking some kind of coaster brake innard. Or a self made little peg, no telling. Anyone have any ideas?

BMX Plus November 1983

I can still recall finding this issue in our local grocery store and being blown away. BMX Plus had a way with trying to make their covers so over the top. And they managed a good one this time. David Ruz getting his hop on while his buddy puts his family jewels at risk. Great cover, great issue.

Always did dig the Rad Gallery's in Plus. This issue was a VS. issue featuring "Dangerous Dave Gianunzio against Flying Fiola." I wonder who won? Eh, who cares. That rear tire grab photo is awesome.

Procraft Ultima 2400 bike test with MartiN Aparijo manning the ship. Somewhere during this bike test is where I was introduced to the I-Hop.

Good to see ESPN has had their hands embedded in BMX for so long. That shot of Richie Anderson and Bubba Hayes is just so "BMX". Fast and stylish, those guys ruled. Also have to give props to two top Pros running front brakes. I had one of my old bikes set up just like John Piant's bike. Chrome, red and black work so good on a bike.
