Saturday Evening Bike Ride

Took an excellent bike ride Saturday evening. Good to get some miles in before the rains came in. Tens miles on the cruiser is better than no miles on the cruiser.

Primo Casket

Somewhere over in the Twitter Universe The Big Boss Man posted a picture of a Primo Casket stem his sales team gave him. Yeah they were so heavy and could make a great paper weight, but they did a pretty good job as a handlebar holder. I had one on my cruiser for a couple of years and it worked well, but as Boss man said, it was very heavy. Now it sits somewhere on my workbench holding down papers.

Redline Cruiser Evolution.

I was just looking back a a few old photos of the cruiser. Other than the paint and a few minor part changes, it has not changes much.

New tires finally.

Finally picked up some new tires for the cruiser. Tioga City Slickers in 1.5 wire beaded. Really not into the black wall, but for the price it was pretty hard to pass up. Hell, it doesn't look to bad with the black walls on it.

BMX Plus September 1983

What a great cover shot. This might mark the point when BMX Plus started to cram as much stuff onto their covers as they could. Number 55 has a blood red though bubble coming out of his head. He really should be thinking of the race at hand, not coast to coast coverage.

These Redline PL-24's always seemed to be the tallest 24" cruisers out at the time. The six inch head tube didn't help matters. Wonder how many of these are around now a days? Pretty rare bird, and not to mention finding a fork with a nine inch long steering tube.

Here is a picture of that head tube. What was Redline thinking putting on those Tech II levers? The test crew for Plus had a solution, but I wouldn't call it a good fix. Horrible levers. I seem to recall Redline switching over to the Tech III when it came out. Good move.

Looks like Tim Judge made another Rad Gallery. He had the best one footed table tops. And yes, Dia-Compe is the number one brake in BMX. I might have had 4 or five set of those MX-1000 and MX-900 brakes. It was cool to run the colors all switched out. Red and black, black and red, gold and black. Who else did that?

I couldn't imagine bumping elbows with these guys in the AA pro class. Stu Thompson and Brian Patterson look like they are about to lock up while fighting for first place. These guys were crazy fast.

Rainy ride.

Had a good ride home from work the other day. I think this was on Friday evening. Made it all the way to our neighborhood and that was when the rain started. It actually felt pretty good. Just a little slippery. Did manage to get a few pics and a video clip. This one in my new desktop background. Nice helmet buddy.

The kid walking in the bike lane had no idea what to think of the goofball riding in the rain one handed taking a picture. Hey, I didn't hit him.

Quick video clip of the rainy hill climb. Here is the finally numbers.

More numbers and sunrise pics.

I rode to work Friday and Saturday. The ride Friday was good except for taking a wrong turn by the airport and making the ride a mile and half longer than normal. One the way home that night I felt my right knee getting stiff. On the way in on Saturday it was really stiff. Almost to where I could not get a downward push on the pedal You can see the time increases on Saturday's ride. Big difference. Sunday and Monday will be rest days from the bike, hopefully by Tuesday the knee will be good to go.

1. Dis 15.6, Odo 493.2, Mx 23.0, Tm 1.09.01, Av 13.5
2. Dis 14.3, Odo   N/A, Mx 25.5, Tm 0.50.40, Av 14.3
3. Dis 13.9, Odo 521.4, Mx 25.0, Tm 1.10.16, Av 11.8
4. Dis 14.7, Odo 536.2, Mx 28.5, Tm 1.21.50, Av 10.7

You can see the drop in average speed and increase in time. The knee made a pretty big difference in the ride. Almost a drop of 4 mph. Hopefully it loosens back up over the next couple days.

Here are some sunrise pictures from the ride in on Saturday morning.

Mileage and a bit of Metallica.

I have been trying to log my mileage each time I commute to work on the bike. Here is a list of the last 4 times I made the trek.

1. 15.12 miles, (454.5 odo),  26.5 max speed, 1.10.31 time, 12.8 average speed
2. 14.57 miles, (127.6 odo),  29.0 max speed, 1.07.27 time, 12.9 average speed
3. 14.46 miles, (142.1 odo),  25.5 max spped, 1.17.46 time, 11.1 average speed*
4. 14.32 miles, (476.0 odo),  24.5 max speed, 1.01.43 time, 13.9 average speed

Day three has an asterisk due to the fact that 4 miles of that was off road through McAllister Park. So my average speed was down and time was way up. I did change the route up a little on yesterdays ride and managed to increase my average speed and cut my time down almost six minutes.

Ride 2 and 3 where done on the Fisher with different tires.

Ride 1 and 4 were done on the Redline cruiser.

It is not to tough a ride on the single speed. The only bad thing is there is not much top end on the gearing. But I really would rather have it that way than have to die on all the hill climbs.

Today's sicko rant.

I was not feeling so good last night and some of that carried over today. So this might just a bunch of random thoughts about some of the stuff I looked at yesterday. And hopefully the cold medicine doesn't kick in too bad and have some strange effect on me. I don't want this to turn into some kind of Steve Hamilton post. There is nothing wrong with that though. He is an amazing rider with a creative(interesting) blog of his own. http://disguisedisguise.blogspot.com/
