BMX Action--October 1983--Murray World Cup

Track layout looked so good! Great 24" cruiser class coverage also. This was definitely one of the best issues of BMX Action made.

BMX Action--September 1983

Alright, it has been awhile since I have done one of these, and seeing as it is September, I thought the September 1983 issue of BMX Action would be a nice place to pick it back up. I had this issue from about the time in came in the mail, to the day it fell apart from being looked at so much. I rode with it in my back pocket over to my friends house, where we would pick over every detail. Even when were out riding, we would take a break and look through it again while sitting in the bottom of the ditch. One of my all time favorites for sure.

Another great first straight photo with Stu Thompson and Brian Patterson fighting for the lead into the first turn. Now if Stu wouldn't have blown out his back tire in the first turn, he probably would have held off Brian.

This photo is one of the all time best to come out of BMX Action. Scott Clark and R.L. Osborn buns up over a set of triples in Centennial Park. Nose down into the landed, best feeling ever!

BMX Action -- November 1983 Part 2

BMX Plus September 1983

What a great cover shot. This might mark the point when BMX Plus started to cram as much stuff onto their covers as they could. Number 55 has a blood red though bubble coming out of his head. He really should be thinking of the race at hand, not coast to coast coverage. 

These Redline PL-24's always seemed to be the tallest 24" cruisers out at the time. The six inch head tube didn't help matters. Wonder how many of these are around now a days? Pretty rare bird, and not to mention finding a fork with a nine inch long steering tube.

Here is a picture of that head tube. What was Redline thinking putting on those Tech II levers? The test crew for Plus had a solution, but I wouldn't call it a good fix. Horrible levers. I seem to recall Redline switching over to the Tech III when it came out. Good move.

Looks like Tim Judge made another Rad Gallery. He had the best one footed table tops. And yes, Dia-Compe is the number one brake in BMX. I might have had 4 or five set of those MX-1000 and MX-900 brakes. It was cool to run the colors all switched out. Red and black, black and red, gold and black. Who else did that?

I couldn't imagine bumping elbows with these guys in the AA pro class. Stu Thompson and Brian Patterson look like they are about to lock up while fighting for first place. These guys were crazy fast.

BMX Plus February 1983.

Bob Haro this time on the cover of BMX Plus February 1983. This bike he is riding has to be one of the most copied builds for Old School BMX collectors of Haro bikes. I can see why, it was a cool set up for sure.

Test of the Champion 24" cruiser. very cool looking bike with that added cross brace between the top and down tubes. Just looked like a really large build compared to some other cruisers around this time. This is the write up that made me want to learn "Hanna's".

Nice shot of the cut away of that added tube. Nice to see they had them welded in and not just shoved in and tacked to the down tube. Very cool. Also a great shot of Martin Aparijo doing the visor buzzer version of the "Hanna".

Another jump I went out and learned after reading this test. For a "Flatlander" Martin was also a pretty good dirt jumper.

Rad Gallery with two berm slides! I have said it before, and will say it again. What BMX needs now-a-days are more berm shots. BBBBBBBBBRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!

Update!!!! Forgot one scan. Had to come back and add it. Really cool shot of Steve Veltman going fast as usual, and of Brian Patterson. Big race for Patterson, he had a triple win here. Really impressive to just get a double, I think he even won the title that year also. I wonder if Steve knew that he and I were on the same team for awhile? I doubt it. I was just a kook on a freestyle bike.
