April Ride #10

Some days you forget your lock so your bike ends up upside down out in front of the store.  I do not recommend doing this, by the way. I was lucky enough to know someone that works here and was outside who  said he would keep an eye on my bike for me.

Saturday Bike Ride to the Bao Quang Temple

Our Saturday bike ended up having a quick visit to the Bao Quang Temple which is very close to our house. They even gave J and I a quick tour of the Temple and let us play on their playground.

Riding in my hood.

Took a quick(long) ride last night to get my Night Rider battery pack to lose charge. Trying to improve the memory of that thing, but I think it might be a lost cause. As long as I still get two days worth off of one charge, I will be happy. Here are few pictures from last night.

My bike found it's self lost in a field for a little bit as I looked for a Geocache about a mile from our house.

Easy find. Thank goodness someone had just mowed the field that this was located in. I would not have even tried to go after it. Snakes scare me.

Rode over to Ed Clark's Christmas house to see if the lights were on. It was a no go. Hopefully soon he gets it lit back up. Apparently there is supposed to be a geocache there but I think it is long gone.

Need your car washed? Need gas? Need Gas? This little taco truck in the HEB parking lot off O'Conner and Nacogdoches has you cover. Man, whatever they were cooking, it sure smelled good. I need to try it out sometime.

More bike commute.

Friday and Saturday I managed to get in a few more rides on the cruiser. Three total for 41 miles. The morning rides are nice but that afternoon ride was a little on the hot side. Had plenty of water before and during the ride though so I felt pretty good. This week I am going to try and get in three days of commuting. If I hold up.

New tires finally.

Finally picked up some new tires for the cruiser. Tioga City Slickers in 1.5 wire beaded. Really not into the black wall, but for the price it was pretty hard to pass up. Hell, it doesn't look to bad with the black walls on it.

A dollar will do.

Had a flat a while back, bad enough that it blew a hole in the sidewall of my tire. I know my tires are getting a little up there in mileage but at that point it was just a matter of getting home. Patched the whole in the tube and managed to shove a dollar bill between it and the inside of the tire where the hole was. Good enough to get me home. Hell! I have gotten another 200 miles out of this set up. And yes, I am ordering more tires today.

Rainy ride.

Had a good ride home from work the other day. I think this was on Friday evening. Made it all the way to our neighborhood and that was when the rain started. It actually felt pretty good. Just a little slippery. Did manage to get a few pics and a video clip. This one in my new desktop background. Nice helmet buddy.

The kid walking in the bike lane had no idea what to think of the goofball riding in the rain one handed taking a picture. Hey, I didn't hit him.

Quick video clip of the rainy hill climb. Here is the finally numbers.

Random pics this week.

Here are a few random shots from the commute to and from work this week.

Here is the hill at 281 and San Pedro. I just would like to say that I really hate this climb.

I did find a new ditch on the way in. Looks like a good set up. Need to get the BMX bike and go check it out.

Random crossbar shot. I have a bad habit of pulling my hands in and putting my thumb over on the handle bars. Not good. Easy way to break a bone.

And of course when your cyclometer reaches this point, you know you need to snap a quick pic. 720! Some of you will get it.

Hold on for the ride. Zi8 test footage.

Here are two quick clips I shot yesterday on the way to lunch. Camera was mounted to a mini tripod that was hand held. Footage is not too shaky. There is a moment in the first clip where I switch hands and everything gets a little crazy. Not bad for a first test. I need to try it will one of those homemade glide cam things with the ball joint in it. That is supposed to make the footage much more fluid like.

Clip one. Gets a little shaky at around 19 seconds.

Clip two is about the same. shaky at first. Smooths out towards the end.

TTT(Triple Tuesday)

Terrible Tuesday Tarantula? I really doubt this post will have much to about spiders belonging to the Theraphosidae family. In fact, it might have more to do with TTT bike stems and Ambrosio. And not Ambrosio salad. Wait. What? I am just rambling. It is more about having a few(lots) of minutes to waste and have a break. Tuesday Time Therapy? Triple Tardy Tangent? Tandy's Terrible Tailor? You get the idea. See what you can come up with. And away we go..........

Been getting some good riding in in the morning and on the way home after work. Miles are adding up quick. I would like to hit 400 miles this month, but we will see how that goes. Here are the numbers for the past 3 rides.

Av.-13.7, Dst.-13.95, Odo.-657.1, Mx.-24.5, Tm.-1.00.43
Av.-15.8, Dst.-14.38, Odo.-671.5, Mx.-32.5, Tm.-0.54.13
Av.-13.2, Dst.-13.95, Odo.-685.4, Mx.-24.0, Tm.-1.03.00

There is some consistency there. Two rides to work are both coming in at 13.95 miles. I must really follow the same line every morning. 13.95 two days in a row. HA! That makes it 42.28 miles down, 357.72 more to go.

Saw this on the way on this morning. Gotta make sure that pavement gets watered.

And for my Tuesday Time Tarry. Enjoy a little Totally Rad Show.

See what you can come up with for your TTT. Have fun and stay classy San Antonio.

Ass kicking Wednesday!

Always a good day when a bunch of old Metallica comes up on random play. I need it after having a cold and tough ride to work this morning. Feels like it is going to be a nice day out though. Should be a fun ride later.

Av.-13.7, Dst.-13.92, Odo.-628.7, Mx.-24, Tm.-1.00.55

There you go. Now go out and ride your bike.

Bike Commute.

Another good ride this morning. Was thinking I might have caught some rain. Clear the whole way in. We had a little shower hit at work 20 minutes or so after I got there. Good timing.

I shot a few clips on the way in this morning to see how the Kodak Zi8 would do in low light. Surprising well. The shots are also some what stable. Not bad for a one handed 20 mph shot. There is one shot I took after climbing a big hill you can actually see my heat beat shaking the camera.

Here are the lines for the last two days.

Avs-14.3, Dst-14.3, Odo-550.5, Mx-25.5, Tm-0.59.29
Avs-11.0, Dis-3.70, Odo-554.2, Mx-24.0, Tm-0.20.13
Avs-13.8, Dis-13.8, Odo-155.9, Mx-25.5, Tm-0.59.10

Man, those Profile racing hubs have a good sound to them. So much better than that crazy noise those Chris King hubs make.

More numbers and sunrise pics.

I rode to work Friday and Saturday. The ride Friday was good except for taking a wrong turn by the airport and making the ride a mile and half longer than normal. One the way home that night I felt my right knee getting stiff. On the way in on Saturday it was really stiff. Almost to where I could not get a downward push on the pedal You can see the time increases on Saturday's ride. Big difference. Sunday and Monday will be rest days from the bike, hopefully by Tuesday the knee will be good to go.

1. Dis 15.6, Odo 493.2, Mx 23.0, Tm 1.09.01, Av 13.5
2. Dis 14.3, Odo   N/A, Mx 25.5, Tm 0.50.40, Av 14.3
3. Dis 13.9, Odo 521.4, Mx 25.0, Tm 1.10.16, Av 11.8
4. Dis 14.7, Odo 536.2, Mx 28.5, Tm 1.21.50, Av 10.7

You can see the drop in average speed and increase in time. The knee made a pretty big difference in the ride. Almost a drop of 4 mph. Hopefully it loosens back up over the next couple days.

Here are some sunrise pictures from the ride in on Saturday morning.

Nosepick At LBJ Skatepark

It might have taken a few tries, but I was super excited to get a nose pick done on this mellow quarter over at the LBJ Skatepar...
