Around 1993 or 1994 the use of the "Aheadset"(clamp on stem and compression bolt design) started being used in the BMX bike world. A carry over from mountain and road bikes, this was possible one of the best things to happen to BMX. No more loose headsets, no more big and bulky headset wrenches. But where did this design start? Motorcycles? Mountain bikes? The automotive world(see clockspring)? I ran across this image in the May 1980 issue of BMX Plus. It looks like Cook Brothers may have been onto something. Just fourteen years too soon. Too bad it never caught on.
